#Tabctl32.ocx register install#
New problems now not related to installs, I have been using system restore to revert back to a fresh Vista after install tests and now I'm getting a message that an unspecified error occured during restore no matter what restore point i choose. Componet Tabctl32.ocx not correctly registered: File is missing or invalid. I have found with Vista there seems to be no consistency, with UAC on you have one set of problems, with it off another set of problems, with a fresh computer one set of problems with a computer thats been used for a while an entirely different set of problems.Īt this point I'm afraid I'm gonna have a week into this thing and finally get the install to work on my machine with a certain config and then find out if you change one thing such as UAC status or Vista version and boom more problems pop up. I just restored the Vista machine to factory state and now I'm getting a whole different set of problems. But if my end user has to register the files manually after install whats the point of having an installation package? You can register the file by running regsvr32 after the install is finished. The 'Register COM interfaces' is checked for all OCX files and DLL files, user must have Admin priviledges is checked.
Either way having the end user turn on or off UAC shouldn't be something that they should have to do, or having to reg a file manually after install. ISE had the most problems with UAC off so I have been testing with UAC off. The problem seems to happen mostly when the UAC in Vista is turned off, although with SF7 I haven't tested an install with UAC on. I can run regsvr32 /u tabctl32.ocx and then it will work(don't ask me why but the unregister switch actually works to register it and without the /u switch it doesnt register or it says it does but still wont run) During the install I do not get any error messages but after the install when you run the program you get the " is missing. The first OCX that does not seem to register in SF7 is tabctl32.ocx, I have all of its dependencies included in the project, I have the require admininstrative option checked, the file passes the test register on the dev machine. Anyone have any ideas? We don’t want to use the bloated legacy install and then run it in compatibility mode, and we don’t want to get a current developer to rebuild either app so we can deploy the new PCs.I am evaluating SF7 due to Installshield Express inability to correctly register OCX files in Vista however I am running into the same problems with SF7, funny thing is it has problems with different files than ISE does. The last ditch effort? Try compatibility mode to XP – The test box with the “bloated” installer can run it, but the clean box cannot. However in an attempt to fix the issue we ran it on a test box – it copied the OCX file and put entries in the registry – now starting the app says: “unknown error”. You will be prompted with a permission dialog box. In the search box, type ' command ' (do not presss ENTER yet) While holding CTRL-Shift, hit ENTER.
#Tabctl32.ocx register how to#
There is a legacy installer tool (it does a lot of weird stuff and was written by the same developer) that we don’t want to use because it does a lot of “not useful” stuff, and has out lived its usefulness. How to re-register Tabctl32.ocx from an elevated command prompt (Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, and 10): Hit the Windows Start button. But none of the solutions seem to work with this app’s issue and Win7.
Normally the error says “Component ‘TABCT元2.OCX’ or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file missing or invalid.” Now Googling this I get all kinds of solutions for this in Vista, and some XP, etc. But when installing/using a home grown app (was developed in house by a programmer who left the company) that is essential to our users there is an error.

We finally get a budget to get some new PCs, they come with Windows 7 - no problems yet.
